September

The species to look out for in September: Western osprey.

A good month to watch birds migrate!

Under the right weather conditions, you can observe the migration of huge numbers of passing birds.

Many migratory birds also use the Zwin as a place to temporarily stop over. September is the best time of the year to spot Western ospreys in the Zwin. Wintering waterfowl, including various duck species and waders, arrive.

You can spot common tree frogs sunning themselves in the right spots. The salt-tolerant plants that are typically found in the Zwin plain are largely over their peak but some species are still thriving.  In fact, this is the best time of the year to see sea asters in flower. This is a very popular host plant for many insects, such as the sea aster bee, a solitary bee species that is typically found in the Zwin.
