The species to look out for in March: white stork.

Spring has definitely sprung.

The waterfowl that wintered in the Zwin now head out, northbound. Their place is taken by birds that wintered in the south. From this month onwards, you can spot various species of migratory birds in the Zwin, such as the Eurasian spoonbill, pied avocet and European stonechat.

The breeding islands

The breeding islands in the Zwin plain become busier as more and more gulls choose a place to build their nest.

The storks

The white stork’s breeding season starts now and by the end of the month, most storks will have laid eggs.

The first butterflies appear on warmer days.
