Shepherds have worked in the Zwin area for over a thousand years. Even today, sheep - with or without shepherds - help with nature management by grazing on the Zwin dikes.

Photo exhibition

With this unique selection of old and recent photographs, you can follow in the footsteps of the shepherds during the last century and today. Take an exciting tour of the Zwin plain, the dikes, the Kleyne Vlakte and the Damse Vaart.

Follow nature photographer Misjel Decleer and discover how the landscape has changed over time.

Shepherd's cabin

One special feature is the ‘kavane’, a wooden shepherd’s cabin that was used in the Zwin area in the 1930s. This very special exhibit will be on display in the park throughout the exhibition.

A two-part exhibition

This exhibition was organised by the Centre for Agricultural History (Centrum Agrarische Geschiedenis, CAG), together with the Zwin Nature Park and Sincfala, the Museum of the Zwin Region in Knokke-Heist, and is one of a two-part exhibition on shepherds in the Zwin.
