Exhibition 'A tour of the North Sea' by Arnout Hauben
Arnout Hauben undertook an adventurous and epic 5,000-km journey on the North Sea, setting out from Bruges to the English coast and the Norwegian fjords after which he returned to Antwerp. His journey was documented in a ‘A tour of the North Sea', a 10-episode series for Flemish TV channel VRT.
Arnout went in search of the rich history of this sea, learning more about surprising events that unfolded and around the water en route. Stories from the Ice Age and prehistoric times, about the advent of the Vikings and deadly superstorms... The programme revealed several incredible elements!
The World Wars that were fought here, the decline of fishery, the emergence of pirate radios, the installation of wind turbines and, unfortunately, also plastic pollution.
An exhibition has now been developed in the margin of this TV programme. The 25 panels paint a picture of the North Sea coast and reflect upon some of the amazing stories that Arnout learned about during his journey.
